The boxes of this generation contained a diode and a germanium transistor and an EF98 electronic tube (optional). One could even, thanks to iron filings, reproduce a coherer (Branly's)! The EF98 tube was designed for car radios and therefore can be powered at low voltage.

One of the first Kosmos boxes dating from the mid-1950s can be seen by clicking on the thumbnail opposite. It was equipped with a DM300-N double-grid tube.
